Medicare near NAS Lemoore & Edwards Air Force Base
Hanford, Lemoore, Lancaster, Palmdale and Ridgecrest hold thousands of retirees who reach 65 with TRICARE For Life waiting. TFL requires Medicare Parts A and B and then pays secondary to Medicare, so a Medigap policy is usually unnecessary; its pharmacy is creditable, so a Part D plan usually is too. What is left is whether a local Advantage plan’s network reaches the specialists you need in Fresno, Bakersfield or Los Angeles, which is the real question in these towns.
Veterans without TRICARE use VA Central California in Fresno, the VA Loma Linda system and its Lancaster and Ridgecrest clinics, and here the Part B timing question is the one that matters: VA care is not creditable for Part B. The Lemoore and Edwards clinics see retirees on a space-available basis; they are not a substitute for Medicare.
